Emerging Markets

A variety of new markets have used Entec's services and technologies.

Micro Tunneling
Uses a remotely controlled Micro-Tunnel Boring Machine (MTBM) and a pipe thrusting system to install the product pipe as you drill. This dismisses the need for additional hole opening passes or pulling the product pipe in one continuous pre-welded string. Short sections of product pipe are welded on as the MTBM progresses, reducing workspace requirements for pipe assembly compared to conventional pipe thrusting and HDD methods. A water and clay based slurry system is typically used to remove the excavated material and lubricate the hole.

Dewatering
Water removal reduces construction problems associated with excavations below the water table. Horizontal wells can be used to replace or augment vertical wells, when extracting large volumes of water from saturated formations. This technique allows the arrangement of multiple wells to curtain, or surround, an area.

Contamination Removal
Similar to dewatering, horizontal wells can enclose an area from which contamination liquid(s) can be removed. Fluid spills that have seeped into the ground and/or water table can now be extracted and monitored, without excavation or removal of contaminated soils.

Oil and Gas exploration
Research and development are opening the door for HDD and trenchless technology in shallow oil and gas exploration and oil sand recovery. HDD offers a cost effective alternative to conventional drilling methods for shallow reservoir depths.
